- ✕Printed or digital material directed against the state.
- ✕Certain agricultural items — fresh fruit, vegetables, plants, and some live animals/birds (subject to permits/veterinary rules).
Restricted & regulated exports
A few categories need permits or paperwork before they leave the country — plan ahead so nothing is confiscated at departure.
Antiques & cultural artifacts
Items over 100 years old or of special cultural importance need permission from the Ministry of Culture to export. When buying anything that could be an antique (shyrdaks, jewellery, instruments, manuscripts), ask the seller for a certificate stating its age.
Precious metals, furs & wildlife products
Undeclared precious metals/stones, furs, and animal products such as saiga horns or deer antlers are restricted or prohibited. Declare valuables on entry so you can re-export them.
Drones
Drones are tightly regulated. Importing a drone can trigger registration and permit requirements with the Civil Aviation Agency — see our photography & drone permits guide before you pack one.
Medication
Carry prescription medicines in original packaging with a doctor’s letter, especially for controlled substances. Bring enough for your trip; specific brands may be unavailable locally.
Verify with official sources
Checked July 2026; rules and advisories change — always confirm on the official page before you travel.
